NYSAT was organized as a reaction to the hundreds of billboards that are not registered with the city, and therefore are illegal. While illegal, these violations are not being prosecuted by the City of New York, allowing the billboard companies to garner huge profits by cluttering our outdoor space with intrusive and ugly ads..."

Lettering Style Masters, 450 years before Dondi CIA

The British National Library is currently trying to obtain the Macclesfield Alphabet Book, a portfolio produced by a book and font design group in the 1500s. The book features examples of various types of fonts and page decorations, and is believed to have been used not only as a sample for prospective clients, but also as a reference/ style guide to teach apprentices. Pretty amazing stuff, considering it was probably all done freehand and by candle light.

Steps

1. Make the outline the same distance from the actual letter, all the way around the shape of the letter.
   
   
   
2. Keep making outlines until your bubble letter is as big as you want it to be.
   
   
3. Erase all of the interior outlines, as well as the initial letter. Make sure you erase all the inside so there are no visible marks.
4. Color in the letter.
   
   
5. Trace the remaining outline with a marker..
   
   
6. Practice and experiment with colors, patterns, and the roundness of your outlines.
