URBAN EXPLORERS

Crack The Surface - Episode I from SilentUK on Vimeo.

The first in a series of short documentaries focusing on the culture of Urban Exploring, those who risk it all to access and infiltaite closed or forgotten spaces.

Not much else to say, watch it for yourself. Not street art I know, but maybe related. Perhaps what Break Dancing was to Graffiti.

MINOR URBAN DISASTERS

We love discovering those odd little moments and objects that jolt you in and out of every day realities,  Street Art being only one. Thankfully people like Ariel actually document and present the others. Beautiful little concept that truly captures the eye and mind of an artist at work.

Ariel Schlesigner presents a collection of photographs documenting what he calls “minor urban disasters.” The photos were taken in different cities around the world, and show off what can happen when reality goes wrong for an instant.

You'll find more in Ariel's Flickr photopool.

Thanks to our Portuguese friend at stick2target for pointing this out.

PANTONIO'S CAR CRASH OF A PIECE

Pop art meets graffiti meets concept based street work.. perfect !

The remains of a car crash on rua ferreira brogues in lisbon, portugal met the graffiti bombing artist Pantonio this weekend. the comic style explosion graphics are cropped to the pieces left in the wall in such a way that one could wonder which came first the graffiti or the crash, or graffiti made with dynamite paint.

BEFORE I DIE...In NOLA

Candy Changs "Before I die..." in Nola

Was very happy to see this having just finished reading the excellent gestalten book "Urban Interventions".

Candy Chang is a public installation artist, designer and urban planner who likes to make cities more comfortable for people. She’s the co-founder of Civic Center, an urban design studio and by the looks of her CV could well be doing something far more selfish.

RECYCLING THE CITY

Recycling the city / Reciclando la ciudad from clara subirats on Vimeo.

Researching themes for Nuart 11 we came across this video in our inbox from last year, may have posted it previously but definitely worth another look.

From the Director

Clara Subirats, from Barcelona (Spain), this summer I did an NYU documentary course. My final project was a short-documentary about how street artists change our idea of public-private space recycling what they found in the city.

ARTISTS: Specter, The Signtologist, Public Ad Campaign and Jay Shells.

"How to manage and deal with the increasing tension in urban space? I want to face that issue using the main expression of their specific way of life that is clearly exposed through the official and private signals that are placed on the streets and spaces. These signals are showing what is possible to do and what is forbidden. But, my focus is the artistic expression of the disagreements and the debates around that issue. Is there an artistic contribution to this debate? I think Art has been and is a very good and intelligent way of express discomfort and disagreement with the mainstream rules, because usually that obliges us to think on the artist goal and how affect our way of living."
