BANKSY SKETCHES
A LITTLE PIECE OF BANKSY HISTORY
An interesting little find from one of the chaps over on Bansy.info following a discussion about Banksy 1st Edition "Wall & Piece" books with dust Jacket. Discussion led to an antiquarian bookshop where the book was on sale at £1000. Not only that, a further search led to these original sketches available for an astonishing £125000. Wishful thinking methinks.
Five original spraypaint paintings on paper. One with extensive hand drawn amendments by the artist. These are the actual paintings made by the artist in the process of producing his most famous prints which were later published by Pictures On Walls. “Love is in The Air” measures 13 x 19.5 inches and is black spraypaint on irregular shaped white gloss paper. “Bombing Middle England” is present without the bomb section and measures 15.5 x 16 inches, black spraypaint on irregular shaped white gloss paper. “Weston Super Mare” consists of three pieces and is present in two states, the first measuring 16 x 19 inches is the man sat on the bench, black spraypaint on irregular white gloss paper and with the cane cut out. This is heavily worked by the artist in black pen and whiteout to add definition. The second state is the now amended image of the man on the bench, without the cane cut out. Black spraypaint of irregular shaped white gloss paper measuring 19.5 x 12.5 inches. The third piece is the saw portion. Black spraypaint on white irregular shaped gloss paper measuring 12 x 23 inches. As is essential with all BANKSY work, full documented provenance and of course Pest Control certification is included. A highly important group of original paintings documenting the artist’s transition from street based guerilla artist to gallery sensation. The artist considered these paintings so important he requested them for his highly acclaimed Bristol Museum Exhibition in 2009.
