Recycling the city / Reciclando la ciudad from clara subirats on Vimeo.
Researching themes for Nuart 11 we came across this video in our inbox from last year, may have posted it previously but definitely worth another look.
From the Director
Clara Subirats, from Barcelona (Spain), this summer I did an NYU documentary course. My final project was a short-documentary about how street artists change our idea of public-private space recycling what they found in the city.
ARTISTS: Specter, The Signtologist, Public Ad Campaign and Jay Shells.
"How to manage and deal with the increasing tension in urban space? I want to face that issue using the main expression of their specific way of life that is clearly exposed through the official and private signals that are placed on the streets and spaces. These signals are showing what is possible to do and what is forbidden. But, my focus is the artistic expression of the disagreements and the debates around that issue. Is there an artistic contribution to this debate? I think Art has been and is a very good and intelligent way of express discomfort and disagreement with the mainstream rules, because usually that obliges us to think on the artist goal and how affect our way of living."
