Ogilvy & Mather New York and Joshua Liner Gallery unveil a series of commissioned murals by celebrated artist Stephen Powers that reinterpret the words and quotes of agency founder David Ogilvy.

Power’s bold graphic style, reminiscent of vintage advertising illustrations puts a unique emphasis on famous Ogilvy sayings and transforms them into actionable words designed to inspire the viewer. Painted in bright colors on the North stairwell of the agency’s headquarters office, the murals run from the first to the 11th floor of the office building.

The murals are being unveiled to coincide with the 100th birthday of David Ogilvy, one of the most influential and important figures in modern advertising.

V1 Gallery proudly presents Days a new solo exhibition by Steve Powers (US). In more than 60 new works, created over the past year, Powers engages the complexities of everyday life, in a poetic, reflective, humorous and distinctive tone. From the beginning of his career he has developed a visual language, often works painted with One Shot enamel paint on metal, which is equally fragile and authoritative.

In Days, Powers comments on mundane issues like, always running late, being lonely in a relationship, the trials and rewards of love, a text reads: NOW THAT WE ARE HERE – NOWHERE ELSE MATTERS. Another work dryly states in pale green, pink and yellow letters: I PAID THE LIGHT BILL JUST TO SEE YOUR FACE. Other works comment on the human condition: TO BE HUMAN IS TO BE BLESSED WITH FORGET - or the self-referring work: MY DAY JOB IS TO DRAW CONCLUSIONS.
In many ways Days feels like reading Steve Power’s personal diary. His work seems to remind us, to reflect on our everyday life as both individuals and society. That in our daily encounters with each other, as fellow humans, friends, enemies, lovers or both, the real magic is in the mundane.

Stephen Powers explains how his local graffiti roots influenced "A Love Letter for You", an ambitious series of 50 murals in West Philadelphia. Powers presents photos and stories from a similar community project spawned in Brazil.

Stephen Powers is a graffiti artist turned studio artist turned graffiti artist. In the 1990's, he left Philadelphia for New York to pursue his artistic ambitions. Stephen returned home in 2009 to paint "A Love Letter for You" in conjunction with the Mural Arts Program and Pew Center for Arts and Heritage. Stephen is a 2007 Fulbright Scholar.

Great to see the film of Steve Powers Love Letter project finished. Looks like a very well shot feasture from the guys at ghostrobot, think we'll have to try and secure screening rights for this years Nuart.
