Oslo get's its own Street Art event. T&J Artwalks. It's for a great charity. So that's good.

Some of the world’s most recognised contemporary street artists are coming to Oslo to show their support for Human Rights Watch by creating an Art Walk in the centre of Oslo 7-17 August. The art walk is a temporary art installation consisting of large artworks on the facades of eight central buildings covering more then 600 square meters of art for everyone to enjoy.

In addition there will be a sales exhibition of contemporary street art held at Blomqvist 19 August to 4 September, with sale proceeds benefiting Human Rights Watch. We are proud to announce that the exhibition will consist of artworks from artists such as D*Face, SEEN, The London Police, Shepard Fairey, Vitaly Rusakov (Mizer), Logan Hicks, Will Barras, Flying Fortress and Martin Whatson. The exhibition has been made possible through generous donations from artists, galleries and organisations.

OUTSIDE IN OPENING

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show on Friday, great turn out, we're still recovering !
Over 400 people, 140 works and 35 artists made this for us the event of the year so far.

Nothing if not ambitious, Outside In features over 120 works from the worlds leading street and urban artists. The show will run at Skur 2 in Stavanger Norway July 01 to Aug 07.
It's our own little museum collection with gift shop attached. Thought we'd try and outdo some of the countries regional museums by throwing together a show with international relevance. The framing bill alone ensures that we won't be attempting anything like this anytime soon. Respect to any gallery that attempts to show more than the usual 10-20 works. If you're in town or passing through in the coming month, drop us a line and we'll show you around.

Thought we'd have a little show..Kinda my MOCA wish list. Here's the obligatory blurb..

Following the acclaimed and ongoing international success story of Stavanger’s Nuart Festival as well as last years “Lowlife” exhibition at Stavanger Kunstforening, Reed Projects is set to consolidate the regions rising reputation for providing a home for this, the 21st Centuries most dynamic artform by unleashing a brand new show dedicated to Street and Urban Art.

Spread across 220m2 of space, Skur 2, a beautifully converted Victorian warehouse on the city harbour front will house works from over 30 of the worlds leading urban artists including Scandinavia’s largest collection of Banksy works alongside new and exclusive pieces from Norway’s Dolk.

Part museum show, part contemporary art exhibition and part urban art boutique, Outside In is nothing if not ambitious, the show will present the myriad of ways in which Street Artists explore and tackle a multitude of techniques, both old and new. Drawings, watercolours, etchings, oil paintings, acrylics, lithographs, screen prints, photography, film and much more will all be on show.

Outside In aims to question and challenge the perception that Street Art is primarily concerned with graffiti and the spray can. A good selling point for gallerists and lifestyle media as well its detractors, but as Outside In aims to show, far from reality.

Outside In shows urban artists who are equally at home tackling antiquated etching techniques, watercolours, drawing and oil painting as they are with a spraycan and marker. As likely to be found hunched over a litho stone as they are scaling trackside fences, “Street” artists have, over the years, explored and mastered crafts not popular in contemporary fine art practice for generations.

Outside In is set to be the countries first major group exhibition (outside of Nuart) dedicated to the most dynamic and democratic art movement of the 21st Century.

Outside In opens on July 01st and runs until Aug 07.…The show will be re-activated over these weeks with several exciting support events currently being planned.

As Wooster said "If you wanna know why someone "does" streetart watch this"..

Can't help thinking that if this had been conceived and executed by..oh I don't know..say, Christo or Sophie Calle for example. Then it would be documented and in MoMA. Happy to play a small part in hoping that ir one day happens.

Felix Morelo is a Colombian American artist living in New York City. He is best known for his chalk drawings, free advice, and paintings.

Hello?

Lately it seems Street Artist and those that cover it think they maybe have to shout louder and go larger than anything that's ever gone before, Banksy's "Exit..." JR's "Inside Out", the all pervasive Obey, art fairs, daily print releases, grandly themed MoCA exhibitions etc. Whilst there's nothing wrong with this sort of ambition and scale, let's not forget those smaller, smarter, funnier hits that make a walk down the street all the more interesting. This being the funniest we've seen in sometime.

STREET ART MEETS REALITY IN LONDON

"Joe Deane, Joseph Loughborough and Ben Slow paint on Hanbury Street, Brick Lane. Ben and Joe paint a piece called "Ma o Shishu" or mother and child from a photograph I found in a book about photography and its power to change in South Asia. Their piece changed the street. Everyone who passed - young and old, local or tourist - responded very warmly to it. As did the restaurant owner who owns the wall. But there was another (AND MORE IMPORTANT. ED) hidden story just behind the painting...of destitution and homelessness in London. 21st century London".

Joseph painted with amazing speed and created two striking pieces one of which lasted only a few weeks before someone decided to make it their private property.

This video is part of a larger project on Brick Lane seen through art and artists.
